Change By Degrees
Environmental scientist and international policy adviser Dr Tara Shine wanted to do more to shape a better world. With Visibility Co’s tools and guidance she rocketed on to the global stage.
When faced with career changes and a need to develop her leadership skills for the issues she was passionate about, Dr Tara Shine applied for Homeward Bound, a global leadership initiative for women in STEMM set against the backdrop of Antarctica.
Dr Shine, an environmental scientist and international policy adviser, wanted to use her leadership and energy to do more to shape a better world, while developing new skills. She needed more clarity on what it meant to be visible in a meaningful, authentic way, that would make a difference and allow her to be herself while still having enough energy for herself, her family and her friends.
In the Visibility Stream of the Homeward Bound program, Dr Shine worked with Julia and Sarah to find and project her voice and be visible with a purpose.
From visualising herself in the future to developing her personal and professional goals, the Visibility Co team led Dr Shine and her Homeward Bound cohort through a program of work aimed to build a visibility plan aligned with their personal strategy maps.
Visibility Co helped Dr Shine see how she could be both visible and purposeful in an authentic way that would make a difference. She found a way to do that through her work with Change by Degrees, a business that partners with organisations to help them design sustainability solutions, and by writing her book, ‘How to Save Your Planet One Object at a Time’. She has since been named by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine as “One of the world’s most extraordinary people”, interviewed and profiled in the Irish Times, The Times of London and interviewed by former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres for her podcast, Outrage to Optimism.
Dr Shine’s work with Visibility Co has helped her to more clearly articulate her goals thanks to the GAMPER framework, which she is accredited to use in her work with Change by Degrees. GAMPER has delivered great results for both Dr Shine and her clients, who range from start-ups to government departments. They have found the framework to be user friendly, effective and impactful in designing communications campaigns and behaviour-change initiatives.
Visibility Co’s coaching and methodology has also given Dr Shine the ability to be more selective about opportunities that are presented to her, by framing them in the context of visibility. She considers each opportunity in terms of what it will do for her, for Change by Degrees, and for the contribution she wants to make in the world.
