Briony Rogers was appointed CEO of Fire to Flourish, part of the Monash Sustainable Development Unit, in 2021. It’s an organisation with a mission to reimagine disaster preparedness. They trial innovations in community-led recovery.
She first engaged Visibility Co. through the Playing Bigger program. After that, she moved to tailored 1:1 support (Second Brain) as part of a wider strategic program for the Fire to Flourish organisation.
The work included:
As CEO, Briony was tasked with transforming traditional power-based models. This role required working with local communities and other stakeholders at the systems level. At the same time, she faced internal organisational challenges.
This was her first role as CEO. As the saying goes, it can be lonely at the top. Supportive mentoring was valuable in helping her identify her skills and any blind spots.
One-to-one mentoring allowed her to see what actions were most needed for her organisation and herself.
As arms-length advisors, Visibility Co was able to help Briony manage risks and identify gaps in perception.
We worked with Briony to articulate her own visibility strategy separate to the strategy of the organisation.
Briony reflects on this process;
“Visibility Co offered guidance and facilitation to help me deeply connect with myself and my values. Then we explored how that translates to my leadership. Playing bigger, being bolder and more confident and courageous in my leadership, and next steps.”
The ‘Second Brain’ relationship helped Briony tackle complex issues and internal difficulties head-on.
As a result of this work, Briony sees herself as a thought leader, not only a CEO. This reframe connects her to purpose. It means that she's able to tackle immediate challenges while keeping an eye on the future.
“Now, in addition to thinking about my responsibilities as a CEO, I’m thinking about my role as a thought leader. I’ve grown an awareness that that’s a role I can and want to step into . And I have more confidence and practical skills to do that.”
